GCU Means GEITA CO-OPERATIVE UNION LTD

Geita Co-operative Union Ltd (GCU LTD) is a major cooperative operating in Geita region, with an area of ​​operation in Geita Town, Geita Rural and Nyang'wale district councils. GCU was registered on 16 January 2018 with registration certificate number 5600, under the Co-operatives Act No. 6 of 2013

Members GCU LTD, is made up of a total of 71 AMCOS located in Geita Urban District Councils, 10 AMCOS 10, Geita Rural, AMCOS 42, and Nyang'wale AMCOS 19 with a total membership of about 13247 members. Including 9514 men and 3733 women. GCU LTD deals with cotton crops as the main crop including mixed crops such as lentils, sunflower, rice etc.

Our Mission

(I)Partnering with other major cotton associations to create an agricultural input fund to facilitate access to affordable, timely quality agricultural input and to lend to farmers at affordable prices.

(II)Encourage AMCOS to set aside a portion from their tariffs for creating an agricultural input fund to lend to farmers.

(III) Encourage AMCOS to create SACCOS / have a savings mechanism to enable their members to get loans to pay for inputs on concessional terms.

(IV) Competing farmers and rewarding winners.

(V) Supervise the establishment of class farms for each AMCOS and provide education on the principles of good farming practices for all UNION-produced crops, through those class farms.

(VI) Reviving the cotton and oil processing factory to buy cotton and enable farmers to pay better prices (initial price and second payment) to inspire more people to aspire to agriculture.

(IV)Renovate houses, sheds and buildings and set new rental rates.

(V)Buy mixed crops such as lentils, cowpeas, and rice.

(VI)Buying a threshing machine and grading rice.

(VII)Testing the soil health of our farms and establishing seed production for eligible crops.
